The ruins of the ancient city of Pergamum (near the modern town of Bergama) are a wonderful sight to see. The old city is situated on a hilltop giving wonderful views of the rolling hills and green country surrounding the area. It was originally settled by Aeolian Greeks in the 8th centery BC and became the capital of the Roman province of Asia in 133 BC. We spent about 2 1/2 hours touring the sight with the kiddos and really could've spent another 2 (Aaron and I could've anyway). I think one of the best things I love about Turkey is our ability to tour wonderful historical sites with our kids. Unlike the quiet culture of a museum, the kids are able to roam the ruins and explore, be outside and imagine what life was like hundreds and thousands of years ago. There is interest for all ages. This trip, Sonora was intent on collecting wild flowers as you can see in the pictures below. This is just a small collection of the pictures we took but it really was a great day as a family.
You are so fortunate to have this opportunity and need to take advantage at every moment. You may not be there forever so go for it.
