The Quiet

This morning after both kids went to school Aaron treated me to a retreat in the forest.  We drove out as far as we could, then walked a logging road a mile or more and then a smaller road into the forest and then bush-wacked our own trail to a place where we could sit and enjoy the quiet.  We brought some coffee and a simit (Turkish version of a bagel) and some reading but mostly I just enjoyed the quiet.  You could still hear the hum of the city but there were so many songs birds and I was delighted just to sit there and listen.  It was a good time to think and pray and just enjoy the colors and light and sounds of His creation.  Our time there went so fast.  It's been too long since we've done this sort of thing and a good reminder we need to get out more often.
