For the past few days
I woke to deep blue
In the skies
By the forest.
The deep color
And cooler wind
Are not of summer
So out come
The crates of fall attire.
The first day
I did no wash
Though neighbors still
Hung their blankets
From open windows
And balconies
Just like always
As if they didn't see the dark blue skies.
The second day
I saw their blankets
And pillows
And laundry
Again.
So despite the threatening skies
I too am washing
And hanging it out
For the wind to whip off the rack.
Though there is no sun
Fast like a dryer
The wind is good.
I know too soon
The rain will really come
And stay. . .
And one load of laundry
Will dry inside
For days.
